Response to terrorist attack on America.
President George W. Bush
The White House,1600
Pennsylvania Avenue NW
Washington, DC 20500
Dear Mr. President:
As a retired
Special Forces (Green Beret) medical officer (with active duty service in
WWII, Korea, and Viet Nam), when the Gulf crisis broke, I wrote your father,
then our President, volunteering back to active duty for the duration of the
crisis,
My request was forwarded to
the appropriate Defense Department authorities, accepted, and I reported for
active duty during Desert Shield, on 5 December 1990, at the Special Forces
and Military Intelligence center at Fort Devens Mass. I served honorably and
effectively until the end of Desert Storm, and then re-retired on 12 April
1991.
I hereby volunteer out of
retirement for return to active duty, immediately and until this new war is
over. I am currently serving as a full time medical officer (internal
medicine, hematology [including blood banking], and clinical nutrition) here
at the Bronx Veterans Affairs Medical Center, and am concurrently serving as
VACO representative on the ICHNR, a subcommittee in the Executive Office of
the President.
Sincerely,
Victor Herbert, M.D., J.D., M.A.C.P., F.R.S.M.
(London)
Lt. Col, USAR (Special Forces),
Ret.
